Driscoll’s Brings the Community Together to Ensure Health Care Access
It’s not quite a barn-raising, but the campaign to purchase and run Watsonville Community Hospital (WCH) has that feeling. Donations from local businesses, community organizations, and government have come from all corners of the county and state.
But Driscoll’s is giving individual donors a chance to make a significant impact too. Through May 31st, they are matching donations up to $1.75 million to the Pajaro Valley Healthcare District Project through a fund held here at the Community Foundation.
Driscoll’s CEO Miles Reiter said he is eager to keep access to public health services and quality care uninterrupted during the transition.
Dr. Carmin Powell (second from right in the photo above), Chair of the Pediatrics Department at WCH and founding member of Rise Together says the fact that “community” is in the name of the hospital means a lot. Doctors, nurses, and staff live locally and receive care there themselves and patients are kind, thoughtful, and deeply appreciative of the care provided.
“We’re a safety net hospital and serve everyone, county wide–from Ben Lomond, Santa Cruz, and the Pajaro Valley–regardless of ability to pay. This transition gives us an incredible opportunity to come back to and strengthen these core values.”
